Trial and error, I have found are the best tools in sewing. \u00a0There are so many different ways to achieve the same end result. \u00a0Or something as simple as cutting out a waistband the wrong way can make you hate your pants! \u00a0That&#8217;s horrible, really. \u00a0I&#8217;ve cut the waistband going the wrong way before on leggings. \u00a0I couldn&#8217;t wait to get them off. \u00a0I almost had to cut them off.<\/p>\n<p>A week or so ago, I found this amazing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fashion-incubator.com\">website<\/a>, it&#8217;s called Fabric-Incubator, the tagline is &#8220;lessons from the sustainable factory floor&#8221; sounds legit. \u00a0The site has been around quite awhile too. \u00a0You should check it out.<\/p>\n<p>Okay so she was saying people lay out the waistband all wrong. \u00a0Ready to wear waistbands are cut with the grain going around the body. The picture below is from that site, it&#8217;s a <strong>BAD<\/strong> example.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/designer-entrepreneurs.com\/blog\/illustrations\/waistband_bad.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The manufacturer makes clothing like this because of their equipment. \u00a0It just works faster. \u00a0We sew our own things, we can take time and care to do the work properly. \ud83d\ude42 In this fashion the legs are cut on the lengthwise grain, while the waistband is stitched in the opposite direction. \u00a0This causes the waistband to shrink at a different rate than the rest of the garment. \u00a0We hate this! \u00a0We think we are getting fat and we aren&#8217;t actually because of the manufacturing the waistband is actually getting smaller! \u00a0Go ahead, eat that cheesecake!<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you cut the waistband properly?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-393\"><\/span>Below is another picture from the website. \u00a0It demonstrates the appropriate method for cutting waistbands. \u00a0Nice, then you won&#8217;t have to cut your pants off after all that hard work. \u00a0Learn from my mistakes. \u00a0I have plenty!<\/p>\n<p>I love that this has the waistband at the bottom of the pants. \u00a0WOW, it makes cutting it out so much easier.
